Ruben Amorim believes Jack Fletcher is ready to make the step up to the first team having been named in the Manchester United squad against Tottenham.
Kobbie Mainoo picked up a knock in the build-up to the clash and did not travel with his teammates to the capital on Friday night.
Fletcher has been included in the United squad as a result of Mainoo's absence. Amorim was asked by TNT Sports ahead of the game how important it is for the club to continue their proud record of naming an academy graduate in every matchday squad for the past 88 years.
"It is really important," Amorim said. "If we are going to take some corners to try and succeed right away it is the wrong thing. There are some special things in our club that we need to be bulletproof.
"It's the way we behave, the way we play, the small things, we are not going to stop with the academy players. It doesn't matter the results, it doesn't matter anything else, we need to continue with the small details that are the foundations of our club.
"We have that record, we are not going to break that record. Jack is ready to help us so we put two things together. We show that our academy is the future, that our players from the academy need to be ready because we are going to need them at some point. Jack is ready."
Victory over Spurs this afternoon would lift United up to second place in the Premier League table.
Amorim has rung the changes for the game, with Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire and Patrick Dorgu coming into the side. Diogo Dalot, Benjamin Sesko and Leny Yoro have dropped to the bench.
