DESPERATION is a dynamic driver of the winter transfer window – and there are clubs around West Ham near then foot of the Premier League table who face a grim choice, as do the Hammers: Spend or face relegation.
Wolves certainly fit into that category – rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with just two points form ten games the midlands club needs a miracle to avoid being jettisoned from the English footballing elite come may next year. And so desperation might well force the club to take a drastic step – as reported by sportsboom’s Neil Goulding today in his article entitled:
Which on the face of it looks both nonsensical and extremely fortuitous for West Ham at the same time. Fullkrug’s high-mileage body can’t seem to complete half a dozen games without breaking down: As West Ham have found to their cost.

Quite how Wolves hope he will be their ‘miracle’ signing that keeps their Premier League credentials intact is somewhat baffling. Fulham, too, if the report is to be believed, are interested in the 32 year old’s signature. According to the article:
“Wolves and Fulham have expressed an interest in signing out-of-favour West Ham striker Niclas Füllkrug, [SportsBoom can exclusively reveal]. The experienced German international centre-forward has scored just three goals in 24 games in total for the club since joining from German giants Borussia Dortmund in August 2024.
And sources have now learnt that the Hammers are more than happy to offload the player in a cut-price deal when the January transfer window opens. A loan deal as well as a potential permanent move is one the table, but the only stumbling block could be Fullkrug’s hefty £100,000-a-week wages.”
Which would do West Ham a massive favour: Fullkrug has been one of the biggest let-downs of then summer ’24 intake – and there have been many – and the Hammers will surely leap at an opportunity to get his wages off the books and his backside off the treatment table.
I’m sure Nuno has a list of replacements all typed up and ready to be handed to his Chairman: Anyone under 28, to be honest, without the high mileage, knackered body would be a good place to start.
