Nicolò Savona was the darling of the City Ground last weekend after netting his first goal for Nottingham Forest in our 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

The Italian defender made his first Premier League start on home soil and marked the occasion in style.

This week, he sat down with Forest Review, our official matchday publication, to reflect on that special moment and discuss how he is settling into life at both his new club and in a new country.

Below is an extract from the exclusive interview.

The latest edition of Forest Review will be available around the City Ground for £4 on Sunday — packed with features, interviews, and insight to get you ready for kick-off on Trentside.

“I was on cloud nine because I’m not so used to scoring goals! I was buzzing at the time and for a few days after the match too.

“But of course with football the next match is never far away, so the focus has to shift from that feeling to preparing for the next one and trying to put another positive result on the board.”

The moment was made that extra special by having some familiar faces in the stands on the day too.

“My mum and dad have been over before to watch me play, but for my sister, brother-in-law and my niece it was the first time they have come since I joined Nottingham Forest.

“It was fantastic to have them over and to share the moment with them. Stupendous!”

The Italian left his native country for the first time to join Forest in the summer, and he feels as though he has settled well into the club.

“Everything is going really well. My teammates, the city, the club — I feel really proud to be here representing this club, and I feel really settled already."
