If either or both of the Browns rookies show they have a chance to be that guy, the Browns could use their two first-round picks on other dire positions of need on offense, namely wide receiver and offensive line.
Currently, at 2-6, the Browns would draft seventh overall. Teams ahead of them are the Saints (1-8), Titans (1-8), Jets (1-7), Dolphins (2-7), Giants (2-7) and Raiders (2-7).
The Titans drafted Cam Ward with the first pick last year and the Giants traded up to select Jaxson Dart in the first round. Two teams in that group have veteran starters and it is unknown if the Dolphins with Tua Tagovailoa and the Raiders with Geno Smith will be looking for a quarterback that high in next year's draft.
Currently, it would seem the Browns would be in contention with the Saints and Jets for a top quarterback. The Saints drafted a quarterback in the second-round, Tyler Shough, but likely would be looking at a top quarterback, if they were in the position to draft one, unless Shough shows enough in his rookie season to give the Saints the belief they have their quarterback.
Typically, if there is a clear-cut top quarterback in the NFL Draft, that quarterback is usually selected by the team with the top pick or a quarterback-needy team trades up to get that quarterback.
For the Browns, they have a chance to get their third win of the season, however, as strange as it sounds, a win could come at a cost, not only in the draft order, but in the tie breakers.
Whomever wins this Sunday between the Browns and the Jets might win in the short term, but the ultimate winner might be the team that loses, if it puts them in position to finally obtain their franchise quarterback.
