“Fantastic” Chelsea star compared to Frank Lampard by legend’s old teammate

FourFourTwo this week have a really interesting interview with former Chelsea player Geremi, an underrated minor cult hero of the mid 2000s at Stamford Bridge.

During his time at the club he got to play with some of our top legends, including Frank Lampard. In this interview, he compares Lampard to Cole Palmer, our modern day icon.

Lampard and Palmer compared by former Blue

“Frank Lampard and Cole Palmer are both goalscorers. They can score at any time during the game,” the former Cameroon international explained.

“When you look at the way Frank used to play his role, he was a No.8, a player who would go from box to box. Palmer is more of an attacking player, but he has a lot of technical quality.”

Lampard was known for his ability in big games and finals, and Palmer also seems to have that in him. Geremi noted the attacking midfielder’s impact in the Club World Cup final:

“Palmer was nothing short of fantastic in that final. I was so shocked. PSG were the team to beat, they were winning absolutely everything.

“But, Chelsea were convincing winners. They deserved it, and Palmer was the man of the match. He’s a great player.”

You won’t find many Chelsea fans disagreeing with that. The team is really struggling right now without him, and the sooner he is back the better.

In other news…

Morgan Rogers is a close friend of Palmer’s, and has long been linked with a move to Chelsea. He’s just signed a new contract, but that doesn’t necessarily make a deal less likely.

Chelsea’s set piece battle against Wolves today is going to be fascinating, and manager Enzo Maresca was asked whether he would be repeating the tactic he used against Tottenham a week ago to counteract the threat from set pieces.
