The Dallas Mavericks and their fans were probably hoping for a better start during the 2025-26 NBA season, especially after all the drama that went down a year ago, but Dirk Nowitzki and the rest of the Western Conference team’s faithful aren’t pleased with what they’re seeing so far.

The Mavericks certainly lucked into the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft when they managed to select Cooper Flagg, however, the former Duke star hasn’t been nearly enough to help Dallas through their opening nine games.
That’s prompted Nowitzki to take a tough stance on the franchise, and the former NBA champion didn’t hold back on what he’s seeing from Dallas this season during his appearance on Prime Video’s coverage Friday night.
“I feel bad for my Mavs fans, ” Nowitzki said following their 118-104 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. “They can’t shoot, they can’t make plays … Nobody can make shots. It’s been tough to watch.”

Dallas has just two wins to their name so far this campaign, including against the Indiana Pacers, who have major injury concerns following their run to the NBA Finals a season ago. While Flagg still provides a lot of promise for the Mavericks, many in the fanbase still have to be very frustrated knowing that Luka Doncic is an MVP candidate with the Los Angeles Lakers.
