Leeds United have history on their side when it comes to facing a fight to stay in the Premier League this season. It's been a steady start to life back in the top flight for the Whites, who have three wins, two draws and five defeats from their 10 games so far this season.
With just over a quarter of the campaign gone Leeds sit outside of the relegation zone and that's where they'd like to say. The good news is, history suggests they will do just that.
Every promoted side in the last 10 years that has achieved more than 10 points from the opening 10 games have survived relegation. Sitting on 11 points at this stage of the season, if Leeds were to get relegated they would become the first promoted side since Cardiff City 12 years earlier to be relegated after picking up this many points from the first quarter of the campaign.
Several teams have gone down from 10 points after 10 games, including Leicester City last season, but none have done it from more than 10 points for over a decade.
If you are a glass half full person, then the worry for Leeds is that we often see big changes in league position from 10 games to the final table. Last season Tottenham Hotspur finished 17th having been seventh after 10 matches. For those who want to look at the positive side, Crystal Palace climbed from 17th to 12th, something the Whites would definitely love to replicate.
The key is, with over a quarter of the campaign now gone, the club's Premier League future remains firmly in their hands. Winning at Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon will give that hope of staying up a massive boost.
