The Hungarian has endured a brilliant start to the season.
Despite the ups and downs of Arne Slot’s second campaign in charge of the Reds, Dominik Szoboszlai had proved to be a consistently good performer throughout.
It is his engine that allows him to play so well, as he doesn’t burn out, and he works tirelessly to help his team in defensive and offensive situations.
He has also popped up with some crucial moments already this season, including that brilliant free kick that gave the Reds all three points against Arsenal at Anfield.
Over the summer, with the arrival of Florian Wirtz, many assumed Szoboszlai would be the one to make way, but he has more than proved his spot in the starting eleven.
Such a high level of performance has linked the Hungarian national team captain with Steven Gerrard, which is immensely high praise for any Liverpool midfielder.
Despite this, Dominik Szoboszlai is happy to leave the leadership duties to Liverpool’s established group for the time being.
Speaking to ESPN, he said: “We have enough leaders with Virgil, with Mo, with Robbo, with Ali.”
“They have been here longer, some of them seven or eight years here, the captain and vice-captains.”
“I just try to do my best on the pitch. If it seems like I am a leader, then I’ll keep doing that on the pitch, not outside the pitch.”
Szoboszlai has placed emphasis on the need to stick together, especially during an up and down season like this one.
He continued, saying: “We are a really close team. Everyone protects each other, we are there for each other. That’s been the most important thing.”
“When everything works, everyone is happy and it is all positive, it’s easy to stick together.”
“The hardest thing is when you find yourself in a position where we were a few weeks ago. But even then, we stuck together and kept on going, believing it would turn for us.”
There is a feeling that Dominik Szoboszlai will progress to be a part of Liverpool’s leadership group eventually anyways as the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Curtis Jones could also join the group to the Reds into the future.
