Leeds Utd: The next few games are going to be tough for Leeds Utd
Key Leeds United rivals have bagged a huge boost in their Premier League survival bid.
Leeds United’s cushion to the Premier League drop zone is down to a single point after a huge boost for key rivals ahead of Sunday’s massive trip to Nottingham Forest.
Daniel Farke’s Whites entered the weekend sat fifth-bottom and with a four-point gap back to the relegation zone headed by third-bottom West Ham United.
Leeds also started the weekend one point ahead of fourth-bottom Burnley who took on West Ham at the London Stadium in another huge clash at the bottom of the table on Saturday afternoon.
Seeking back-to-back away wins, Burnley went ahead through Zian Flemming in the 35th minute but Callum Wilson drew the Hammers level one minute before the break.
The contest appeared to be heading towards a 1-1 draw but West Ham went ahead in the 77th minute as keeper Martin Dubravka could only parry Lucas Paqueta’s shot into the path of Tomas Soucek who netted from close range.
Big change at the bottom of the table
Burnley suddenly found themselves behind and another mistake from Dubravka led to West Ham bagging a third goal in the 87th minute through Kyle Walker-Peters.
The Clarets pulled a goal back in the 96th minute through Josh Cullen who netted after Hannibal’s long-range strike was spilled but the late response was unable to prevent a 3-2 victory for the Irons.
The huge boost triumph took West Ham up to ten points, level with Burnley, and only behind the fourth-bottom Clarets on goal difference.
It leaves Leeds fifth-bottom but now just one point ahead of the dropzone heading into Sunday’s massive clash at Forest.
Saturday afternoon’s other Premier League game saw another defeat for Fulham who suffered a 2-0 defeat at Everton.
Defeat for the Cottagers leaves them 15th, only above Leeds on goal difference and with the Whites having played a game less.
Everton have now jumped up to 11th.
