Celtic Manager Search: Could Ange Postecoglou Return? Plus, New Contenders Emerge! | Fitbaw Talk
Here are some of the latest headlines when it comes to Rangers and Celtic.
Rangers and Celtic are in Premiership action on Sunday but that’s far from the only talking points surrounding the Old Firm pair.
Both sides lost in Europe midweek, with Rangers’ defeat against Roma sparking chants for sporting director Kevin Thelwell to go, amid a lamented first summer transfer window under new owners 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh. Celtic meanwhile are hunting a new manager with club hero Martin O’Neill at the helm currently.
They lost at Midtjylland and return to Scotland for a home game with Kilmarnock, as Rangers take on Dundee at Dens Park. Here are some of the latest headlines when it comes to both sides of the Old Firm.

Kris Boyd makes Kevin Thelwell Rangers future claim
Ex-striker Kris Boyd claims Thelwell is in his Ibrox endgame. He claims the former Everton sporting director’s exit is a case of when not if, amid protests against him. Boyd wrote in the Scottish Sun: “Andrew Cavenagh watched Rangers underperform on the pitch against Roma but how long will it be before the American chairman turns his gaze to those failing off it?
“Patrick Stewart (CEO) and Kevin Thelwell must have been squirming as Roma brushed Gers aside easily in the Europa League. Not so long ago, Ibrox was a cauldron on European nights. Now, all the life has been sucked out of the place. The demise in the quality of the squad even from last season is incredible. On Thursday night, they were outclassed by a weakened Roma team who barely broke sweat. Cavenagh has witnessed the alarming drop-off and it all comes down to shambolic recruitment.
“Stewart and Thelwell must take huge responsibility for that after a disastrous summer. They were both once again subject to banners and chants on Thursday night and the pressure is mounting. Yet they can have few complaints, and I would be amazed if Cavenagh and the 49ers aren't starting to ask serious questions. Thelwell's work over the summer has been absolutely miles off it. He's out of his depth. Thelwell has no affinity with Rangers and will eventually go, leaving someone else to clear up his mess, or shall we say shambles.”
Former Real Madrid star backs Celtic manager contender
Keylor Navas says it’s no surprise to see Efrain Juarez linked to the Celtic job. The former Real Madrid goalkeeper plays for the ex-Hoops star’s UNAM Pumas side in Mexico, and the rumours haven’t sparked shock amid impressive work. He told AS Mexico: “Weeks ago, the news was that Efra was leaving the team, now it’s that another team [Celtic] wants him, and that’s part of football.
“When a group has that trust, that communication, between the coaching staff and the players, it’s because we’re all on the same page. Everything said outside shouldn’t affect us, neither the negative nor the positive. As we always say, we can’t let the positive get us too high or the negative gets us down.
“For us as footballers, it’s a privilege when people speak well of our coach. It lets us know we’re in good hands. We know his ability and talent. Whether other teams want him, I don’t know if it’s true, but it wouldn’t surprise us at all. Good coaches and good players always have rumours about who wants them, but what we’re clear about is our commitment to this club.”
