Liverpool 1-0 Real Madrid: Match Verdict
Liverpool are among the clubs who have been linked with Kennet Eichhorn.
Liverpool are monitoring a German teenager enjoying a breakthrough season, reports suggest.
According to BILD (via Mundo Deportivo), the Reds have been tracking Kennet Eichhorn of Hertha Berlin. The midfielder has managed to fight his way into Hertha’s senior set-up despite being only 16 years old. Eichhorn has made nine appearances for the 2. Bundesliga outfit this season - with seven coming as starts.
Eichhorn’s performances have unsurprisingly caught the attention of plenty of clubs across Europe, with Liverpool said to be one of them, The likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been credited with an interest in the Germany under-17 international and a price tag of around £17 million has been suggested.
What’s been said
Eichhorn recently earned praise from Felix Kroos, who is the brother of legendary former Germany and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.
"That's the beauty of football: there isn't one right path, no magic formula," Kroos told RTL. "Still, Eichhorn, at 16, is a special case and should remain in his familiar environment.
"That's what brought him to where he is now. A move to Bayern or [Borussia] Dortmund in the next two to four years would be too early. I hope he develops at Hertha for a few more years. Ultimately, you can't plan anything in football.
"If it goes well and Eichhorn stays another two or three years, those €6 million could become €60 million. That would be even better for the books in Berlin. And with the sums circulating today, €6 million is too little anyway.
"The way Eichhorn plays is remarkable. He radiates calm, gains valuable experience, and is allowed to make mistakes. He has the quality, yet he will sometimes sit out. You have to give such a young player a break because it's a lot for the mind."
