West Ham United secured back-to-back wins for the first time in nine months this afternoon on the same day as 10,000 supporters marched in protest against the board.
Goals from Callum Wilson, Tomas Soucek and Kyle Walker-Peters ensured the Irons ended the week with six points from six having beaten Newcastle 3-1 in Stratford last weekend on the same day as fans once again took to the streets to protest against chairman David Sullivan and vice chair Karren Brady.
Thousands of fans congregated outside the London Olympic Stadium ahead of kick off to voice their concerns over the way the club is being run by the current board. And suggestions that any such demonstrations would have a negative effect on the team were firmly dispelled once again as the Hammers produced an important, morale-boosting win.
Despite having fallen behind - again - to Zian Flemming's 35th minute header, the Hammers came through to secure three priceless points that take them level on points with today's opponents and put Nuno Santo's side in touch with the remainder of the lower half of the Premier League table.
Callum Wilson vitally restored parity before the break, equalising in the final minute of formal time before second half strikes from substitute Soucek - only on due to a suspected hamstring injury to Freddie Potts - and fellow sub Walker-Peters, who converted a spilled Soucek effort from close range, secured a win.
And even though Scott Parker's side grabbed a second in the closing seconds through former Hammers Josh Cullen after Alphonse Areola spilled a free kick, the Hammers managed to see out the final few remaining seconds to claim back-to-back wins.
Including the Clarets, today's win puts the Hammers within reach of five teams immediately above them - and four points ahead of Nottingham Forest, immediately below in 19th spot.
