As Pep Guardiola prepares to take charge of his 1000th game as a manager, football fans have been treated to a touching moment between two of the sport’s greatest rivals.
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, now away from the dugout, has sent a special message to the Manchester City manager — one that captures the mutual respect built over a decade of intense competition.
For years, Klopp and Guardiola shaped English football with their tactical battles.

So it felt fitting that as Guardiola approaches this incredible milestone, Klopp was among the first to acknowledge him.
His message, shared via Sky Sports Premier League, showed both admiration and the humour that defined their relationship.
Speaking with a wide smile, Klopp began,“Pep, my friend, welcome to the 1000 club.”
‘I can’t believe you look that young and you already reached this absolutely incredible landmark.”
The German then couldn’t resist a light-hearted dig at his old rival, “Probably, I don’t have to say I reached this 81 games ago.”
“Probably the only time I arrived before you.”
“It’s all good.”
After the joke, the tone shifted.
Klopp reflected on the decade-long rivalry that defined both their careers.
“I’ve said it a million times, it was a pleasure and it was an honour to face you during our careers,” he said.
“Most difficult games but the games I enjoyed the most because you were and you are an inspiration to all of us.”
“The way you understand football is pretty much second to none, the desire you show every day is absolutely outstanding.”
He signed off warmly, “So, yeah, another legendary club you are a member of now.”
“Onto the next 1000.”
“All the best, speak soon and have a wonderful celebration.”
“Maybe you’ll celebrate it with a glass of red wine.”
