Manchester United midfielder Sekou Kone has expressed his joy at returning to training after a serious injury with a five-word message on social media. The 19-year-old was involved in a National League Cup fixture against Tamworth for the Reds' Under-21s in mid-August when he sustained a head injury just before half-time, leading to the match being called off as there was no replacement ambulance available after he was rushed to hospital.

Kone, who suffered a fractured eye socket during the collision, was released from hospital the following morning, as he continued his recovery at home. Despite an academy source describing him as "fine" in September, the Mali Under-17 international has been unable to participate in contact training, delaying his return to the pitch.

However, Kone has now made a comeback to training, expressing his delight with the words: "I'm happy to be back," in an Instagram post featuring several photos of him in action.

Earlier this week, the club's U21 boss Travis Binnion provided an update on Kone's progress, confirming that the youngster is set to play again after the November international break.

"After the international break, we think he will be ready to play, which will be good," Binnion told the BBC.

"He has not been able to do contact, which limits the work we can do, but he's back in full training now, and we will get a body of training back into him, with contact."

Reds' first-team boss Ruben Amorim included Kone in the USA pre-season tour squad, but the young talent didn't get a chance to play.

Last season, Kone was named in three Premier League matchday squads - against Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Nottingham Forest - but he has yet to make his debut for the club.

United shelled out around £1million to bring Kone from Malian outfit Guidars FC in August 2024.
