So could he play a part in an unprecedented unchanged starting XI for Fabian Hurzeler.
The Albion head coach has always made at least one alteration to his initial line-up since arriving ahead of last season.
But it is not so easy to see where a change, if there is to be one, will come at Selhurst Park.
Kaoru Mitoma was rated 50-50 as Hurzeler spoke to media ahead of training on Thursday morning.
That was with two training sessions still to complete before the Selhurst Park clash.
Gomez was not exactly a like-for-like replacement for Mitoma in last week’s win over Leeds.
But he was busy when using that left-of-centre berth as a platform to get infield.
He has done a lot to keep his place in the line-up.
Hurzeler said: “He scored two goals. It's important why he scored the two goals.
“He scored them because he was very present in the opponents' box.
“He attacked the opponents' box with full intensity, and that's just the key if you want to score goals.
“For him, he did it his whole career, he played in different positions for his whole career, and again that's just a good thing for him and also for me.
“You need to find solutions, then you need players who are capable of playing in different positions.
That Gomez role allows space outside for an attack-minded full-back such as Ferdi Kadioglu or Max De Cuyper to exploit.
Albion will need more from their central midfield than they got against Leeds and Hurzeler has hinted that Carlos Baleba will continue.
Gomez and right-back Mats Wieffer might be able to help out in that area.
James Milner, Jack Hinshelwood and Brajan Gruda are not candidates for action with Adam Webster and Solly March still longer-term absentees.
Possible Albion XI: Verbruggen; Wieffer, van Hecke, Dunk, Kadioglu; Baleba, Ayari; Minteh, Rutter, Gomez; Welbeck.
