Everton earned a 2-0 victory over Fulham in the Premier League although Thierno Barry was unable to break his goal duck.
David Moyes saluted Everton fans for the standing ovation they gave Thierno Barry during the 2-0 victory over Fulham.
Goals from Idrissa Gana Gueye and Michael Keane either side of half-time delivered the Toffees a 2-0 triumph at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Everton were dominant for much of the encounter and also had three goals ruled out for offside.
The striker position has proved somewhat problematic for Everton so far this campaign. Moyes opted to stick with Barry from the 1-1 draw at Sunderland in the Blues’ previous game - despite the £27 million summer signing having yet to score since his arrival.
Barry did spurn a decent chance against Fulham when the game was goalless. However, he continued to work hard throughout the encounter before being substituted in the 79th minute for Beto. Supporters inside Hill Dickinson Stadium showed their appreciation to Barry for his performance.
And Moyes saluted Evertonians for continuing to back Barry and Beto, who has bagged only once in the Premier League so far. The Toffees boss said at his post-match press conference: “I think it’s great credit because all the Evertonians know they are both are looking for confidence and support. The crowd were brilliant for Barry today but I think Barry gave them something to shout about in believing and he was rightly applauded when coming off.
“I don’t think any of the Evertonians would question Beto for his work-rate and attitude because what he did for us at the end of last season was amazing, scoring goals and the way he played. The supporters need a great deal of credit for that because we need those two to keep their confidence up. When you’re not scoring as a centre-forward, it’s not easy to do.”
