Reaction from Middlesbrough assistant coach Adi Viveash following the club’s 2-1 win over Birmingham - with head coach Rob Edwards in talks with Premier League club Wolves.

Middlesbrough assistant boss Adi Viveash says it was special to witness Middlesbrough’s 2-1 over Birmingham after an ‘interesting’ week for the club.

Boro head coach Rob Edwards wasn’t in the dugout after the club granted him to permission to speak to Wolves, after rejecting an initial approach from the Premier League club. That meant Viveash took charge of the team, alongside first-team coach Harry Watling and academy manager Craig Liddle,

Reacting to the win, which came courtesy of goals from Dael Fry and Hayden Hackney, Viveash said: “I think today is all about the players and supporters. I think they dovetailed amazingly well and joined together to show the best of an amazing football club. It was pretty special to witness it, let alone work within it.

“Footballers are very resilient. Their job is to produce for the club they play for and they’ve done that today and we’ve come out with a positive result, shown a lot of grit and desire, and fight to get there.

“I would say that has been with most of the games this season, that has been apparent. I think they’ve done that for the 15 games so far and if you work hard, luck generally falls on your side.”

When asked how the last 48 hours have been, Viveash replied: “Interesting. It’s football. If you’ve been around the game a lot, which I have, nothing surprises you. It’s not the first time this has happened where I’ve been working and I think it’s all about trying to control the controllables. I said before the game, control the controllables.

“All they can control is trying to produce the best version of themselves today in the game and getting these amazing fans involved. They didn’t need to do that because the noise before was like a tidal wave and we started so well off the back of that.”

He added: “All I sensed from when they came in today was a determination. They (the players) were very bubbly, very lively. They are great around each other anyway. They spend time with each other away from the game.

“There was some really, really good words spoken before the game by players and that was great. We knew they were ready and then it was about seeing where we got to. We’ve come out with a massive win for the football club, for the players and certainly for the supporters during a difficult 48 hours. “
