David Moyes praised Thierno Barry for his role in Everton’s win over Fulham, stating: “He worked his nuts off.”

The 23-year-old did not get off the mark for the Blues but was a constant threat, repaying his manager’s faith after he endured a tough night in Sunderland on Monday.

He was also a key part of a wider team performance that delivered a deserved three points courtesy of Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane’s goals.

Speaking after the game, Moyes praised Barry - while also giving credit to the Everton supporters for the way they embraced both him and his second half replacement, Beto.

He said: “I think all the Evertonians know that both players are looking for confidence and looking for support. I thought the crowd were brilliant for Barry today, but I think Barry also gave them something to shout about and believe in and he was rightly applauded coming off.

“And look, I don't think any of the Evertonians would question Beto for his work rate or his attitude because what he did really for us at the end of last season was amazing, scoring the goals he did and how he played.

"The supporters need a great deal of credit for that [their support] because we need those boys to keep their confidence up and while you're not scoring as a centre forward it's not an easy thing to do.”

Of Barry’s wider play, which saw him link up well with the attacking midfielders around him, Moyes added: “Thierno has to get used to the physicality, being a centre-forward in the Premier League, what you're going to come up against, the challenges.

"If he was scoring then you wouldn't think about too much of the other [things], but while he's not scoring then he's going to have to be very good. I thought the other parts of the game today, in the main he'd done, I thought he worked his nuts off. I thought he ran hard, he was committed for the team. I thought he did a really good job for the team today.”
