Chelsea XI vs Wolves: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League today

Enzo Fernandez starts for Chelsea against Wolves

Chelsea Football Newsletter

Enzo Maresca has been left to contend with yet more injury problems ahead of Chelsea’s game against Wolves tonight.

Maresca said that he is waiting to find out the severity of Romeo Lavia’s quadricep injury after he was taken off just eight minutes into the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Qarabag.

The midfielder will miss out against the Black Country outfit, while Pedro Neto has been assessed having missed Chelsea’s trip to Baku as a precaution. The Portuguese plays here having been passed fit, and he joins Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro in the attacking midfield trident.

Cole Palmer, Benoit Badiashile, Dario Essugo and Levi Colwill remain out, while Joao Pedro, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are all playing through injuries.

Chelsea have made the most changes of any team in the Premier League this season by some distance, with Maresca clear that he has purposefully adopted a policy of rotation.

It’s a decision that has drawn criticism, but Maresca is adamant that sweeping changes are necessary for a Chelsea side who had less than two weeks to prepare for the new Premier League season, owing to their involvement in the Club World Cup.

Maresca was expected to make more changes to his side ahead of the visit of managerless Wolves, knowing a win could catapult them back into the top four.
