Phil Smith's Sunderland player ratings vs Arsenal as stalwart pair land nines - gallery

Sunderland were back in Premier League action as they faced Arsenal at the Stadium of Light on Saturday night.

Mikel Arteta’s side offered the sternest test of the campaign so far for Sunderland, having not conceded in seven games prior. It proved to be a game of high drama, with Brian Brobbey scoring in stoppage time to secure a 2-2 draw for his side.

Here’s how we rated all the Black Cats involved on the night...

Nothing at all he could do about Trossard’s magnificent strike. Beaten at his near post for the first but you can’t criticise, it was a fine finish from Saka on his weaker foot. Generally good with his handling and distribution. 6

Had a really excellent game. Dominated his battle with Trossard in the main, who eventually worked some space from Sadiki to score the winner. Defensively very strong and used the ball well, too, leading to the equaliser. What a moment. 9

Another strong defensive performance from Mukiele, who used the ball well and defended resolutely. 7

Defended very well and showed what a threat he is in the opposition box. The goal was a genuine striker’s effort, a fine first touch and top finish. Then assisted Brobbey at the end. Thriving. 9
