Carlos Corberan could escape Valencia as one-time Leeds United man linked with Championship return

Former Leeds United coach Carlos Corberan could be handed an unexpected escape route at Valencia after being linked with a Championship job.

Carlos Corberan is enduring a difficult season in Spain as a string of injuries have disrupted his progress at Valencia.

The Valencia players have backed Corberan in recent days, despite the Spanish giants currently sitting 19th in La Liga, having lost four of their last five games.

Corberan was once considered for the Leeds job, but is under pressure at the Mestalla as he waits for a string of players, including Largie Ramazani, to return from injury.

However, Corberan could be offered a surprise exit route from the club, with reports suggesting that Middlesbrough are interested in the former assistant to Marcelo Bielsa.

Former Leeds United coach Carlos Corberan is on the shortlist for Middlesbrough job

According to a report by TalkSport, Corberan could be offered the chance to return to the Championship with Middlesbrough.

Current Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards looks set to leave the club to replace Vitor Pereira at Wolves. Should he do so, Corberan could be the man who replaces him at the Riverside Stadium.

The report states: “Carlos Corberan is a potential replacement for Wolves-bound Rob Edwards at Middlesbrough.”

Before continuing: “Valencia are currently languishing in 19th in LaLiga, one point from bottom, following a 4-0 hammering away at Real Madrid.

“Nevertheless, Corberan’s Championship experience has seen him installed as a potential candidate at Middlesbrough.”

Corberan’s departure could impact Largie Ramazani and Leeds United

Although Corberan has not yet agreed to join Middlesbrough, it may offer a convenient escape route from his current struggles with Valencia if the role does become available.

However, the move could have a wider impact on Leeds and the loan deal to take Ramazani to Spain, which was agreed in the summer.

Ramazani is currently out injured and has struggled to make a significant impact since his season-long loan to Valencia was agreed.

With Leeds holding a recall clause to allow Ramazani to return in January, if Corberan does leave, that option may become a reality if his replacement does not see a future for the Leeds winger.
