Morgan Rogers is set to stay put at Villa Park amid Tottenham Hotspur transfer links
Tottenham prioritised strengthening their attack in the summer as the club aimed to build on last season’s Europa League success. The Lilywhites brought in players such as Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani to add depth to the forward line and help Thomas Frank close the gap on their Premier League rivals.
Long-term injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski forced the North London side to search for a new number 10, as they needed to replace the creativity and influence of the injured duo. Spurs explored a number of options, including Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze, but were unable to bring either player to N17.

Tottenham will not land Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers in January.
Attention then shifted toward Xavi Simons, who was keen to leave RB Leipzig. The Dutchman was strongly linked with Chelsea throughout the summer and had even agreed personal terms with the London club. However, the move collapsed in the final stages of the window, allowing Tottenham to step in and secure his signature.
Tottenham set to miss out Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers yet again
Tottenham also made a serious effort to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa late in the summer window. The Lilywhites were looking to take advantage of Villa’s financial concerns by pursuing a cut-price deal, as they viewed Rogers as a suitable replacement for Maddison in the number 10 role. However, Villa ultimately decided to keep hold of the player, bringing an end to Spurs’ attempts to sign the 23-year-old at that time.
That interest did not disappear once the window closed. Tottenham remained keen on Rogers and were exploring the possibility of signing him in January. Thomas Frank was also understood to be enthusiastic about bringing the midfielder to the club if the opportunity arose to strengthen the squad midway through the season.

However, Spurs have now received a massive setback in their efforts to land Rogers anytime soon. As per David Ornstein (via X), Aston Villa have reached an agreement to extend Morgan Rogers’ stay at Villa Park. The England international has agreed to fresh terms with the Birmingham-based club, signing a new deal until 2031, with a significantly improved salary.
This development is a major blow for Tottenham, who invested considerable time and effort in trying to secure Rogers for the upcoming transfer window. The focus will now need to shift towards alternative targets in order to provide more cover in the attacking midfield role. It is clear that Xavi Simons cannot shoulder that responsibility alone, especially with Maddison still working his way back to full fitness.
Recent reports have linked Tottenham to Brentford star Kevin Schade as they continue to look for possible targets to sign in January. The German attacker is seriously considering a move in the coming months, and would be tempted to reunite with Thomas Frank at N17 for the second half of the campaign. It remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites proceed with the deal to land him as they look to bolster their attacking front this season.
