Pat McAfee urged Patrick Mahomes to “stop taking those damn hits” in a shot at the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s physical style of play.
On Saturday, Mahomes returned to his alma mater during the Chiefs’ bye week. As a result, the two-time MVP featured on ESPNCollege GameDay as ninth-seed Texas Tech face the eighth-seed BYU.

The likes of McAfee - who has been on a run of ripping his shirt off in recent weeks - along with Nick Saban and Kirk Herbstreit were on the show as always. Mahomes joined to make his picks of the week, and McAfee took the opportunity to impart some advice.

“Patrick Mahomes is going to go down as a GOAT… you need to stop taking those damn hits!” McAfee told Mahomes on ESPN's College GameDay. “I think the reason why you enjoy doing that though is because you are a Texas Tech Red Raider.
“This epitomises being a tough football place - you got a high school football coach from the area, comes in here, revamps everything, you got alumni that play ball and wanna dump money back into the organisation.
“It’s seemingly everything that is right with the current NIL, and transfer portal era, is happening right here.”
Texas Tech is in the midst of one of their greatest seasons ever, and overcame a major test this weekend - downing unbeaten BYU 29-7. Mahomes was watching on, cheering on the program where he spent three years.

Mahomes threw for 92 touchdowns to 29 interceptions at Texas Tech, ranking third in school history for both yards and touchdowns. After leaving the school a year early, Mahomes was drafted with the 10th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
On the bye this week, Mahomes knows his Chiefs need to improve down the stretch. The Chiefs are 5-4, losing games to the Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills to sit outside the playoffs.
Kansas City does have a favorable schedule in the coming weeks, including games over the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans - four teams with losing records. The Chiefs have also been boosted by the return of their number one wide receiver Rashee Rice, who has helped open the field for both Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy.

Kelce is enjoying a resurgent year; the tight end has already equalled his touchdown tally from last year. The three-time Super Bowl champion has 540 yards and is on track to surpass 1,000.
The Chiefs are next in action against the 8-2 Denver Broncos - who lead the AFC West - on Sunday, Nov. 16.
