Why Chelsea fans booed their team at half time against Wolves – stats make it clear

It’s half time in Chelsea’s game against Wolves at Stamford Bridge, and a pretty strong chorus of boos were audible as the teams went off the pitch.

“Boos at the break from some Chelsea supporters,” Sky Sports’ Peter Smith wrote in the stadium.

“But really, their team have done enough to be ahead in this match. There have been a couple of good saves from Johnstone, a corner cleared off the line and so much territory and possession dominance from the hosts.

“It’s just been that final bit of quality lacking in the final third for Chelsea. They have the chance to go second tonight. They can’t miss the opportunity against winless Wolves.”

Other pundits were on the same page.

“[Enzo] Maresca will be frustrated. Chelsea have had a few chances but they’re half chances – Garnacho should have done better with his early chance but they’ve found it hard,” Gary Cahill said to the Premier League’s media team.

“Wolves are in a low block, they’ve come for a point, and Chelsea need to show more intensity.”

Chelsea have dropped 8 points from 5 games at home this season. And no team has dropped more points from winning positions than the Blues. That explains the boos, if you were wondering. They need to go up a gear in the second period.

Estevao Willian has been left out of the Chelsea team tonight as Enzo Maresca continues to work him in gently – we explain why it works for us, here.

Estevao may not be in the team for tonight but Liam Delap is. It’s a huge day for the striker as he looks to make up for a much interrupted start to his Chelsea career.
