Cori Clingman, the driver who caused a crash that killed three football players, including former Penn State defensive back Anthony Lytton Jr., has pleaded guilty to three counts of negligent homicide under the influence of alcohol.
ESPN reported that Clingman entered the plea on Friday in a Maryland court.
The crash also killed Minnesota Vikings rookie defensive back Khyree Jackson and Isaiah Hazel, who played collegiately at Maryland and Florida State.
Per ESPN, Clingman, 25, will likely serve up to three years in prison. The outlet said prosecutors plan to recommend five-year sentences for each count. However, all but one year is expected to be suspended from being served consecutively.
Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 4.
Jackson, Hazel and Lytton Jr. were all high school teammates. The crash occurred on July 6, 2024, and ESPN reported that Clingman was accused of driving more than 100 mph while intoxicated when she caused the crash.
The players were traveling in Hazel’s Dodge Charger when they were hit by Clingman’s Infiniti q50, per ESPN. That caused the car with the players to leave the road where it struck multiple tree stumps at around 3:14 a.m. Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene while Lytton Jr. died at a hospital.
Clingman had two other passengers in her vehicle. No one in the car was injured.
Jackson was taken in the fourth round, 108th-overall, in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Vikings. He played collegiately at Alabama and Oregon.
Lytton Jr., who was 24 at the time, committed to Florida State coming out of high school, but transferred to Penn State and was with the Nittany Lions for the 2021 season.
The speedster was Maryland’s Gatorade Player of the year in 2017.
