Matt Scrafton's verdict on Burnley's 3-2 defeat to West Ham

Nuno Espirito Santo has given his thoughts after West Ham came from behind to beat Burnley.

The Clarets took the lead in the 35th minute at the London Stadium through Zian Flemming, but found themselves level at half-time as Callum Wilson struck just before half-time - his eighth career goal against Burnley, only scoring more against his current employers (12).

Tomas Soucek and Kyle Walker-Peters settled the match in West Ham’s favour, though Josh Cullen was able to pull back a consolation goal deep into second-half stoppage time.

Nuno Espirito Santo reacts to West Ham United 3-2 Burnley

Burnley will be disappointed to lose after sustaining long periods of pressure in the second half, eventually outshooting West Ham 16-15 and controlling 58% of possession.

However, Espirito Santo has paid tribute to the way his Hammers picked themselves up after falling behind, as well as the solidity they showed to ride out the Burnley pressure - ultimately delivering a win that sees the two sides go level on 10 points in joint-17th in the Premier League table.

"Again, unfortunately, we had to react,” Espirito Santo told BBC Match of the Day after the London clash. “We didn't start the game very well, there was no urgency. But the reaction. I'm happy for that.

“I think that the second half, we were much better. Overall, the team was organised, and this was a special day for all of us and all of our fans.

"It's about trying to improve as a team. As a team we are showing small steps but steps in the right direction. The fresh legs came off the bench and the boys who came in helped the team.

"Yes, the boys have this belief that we're going to bounce back and the ball will be there. I'm happy for Callum Wilson, a striker needs goals. I'm also delighted for Tomas Soucek and Kyle Walker-Peters."
