West Ham have made it two wins in a row after victories over Newcastle United and Burnley.
West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo had plenty of praise for super sub Tomas Soucek following the 3-2 win over Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
The 30-year-old came off the bench to find a huge impact on the game. Soucek came on for rising star Freddie Potts after the midfielder picked up a dead leg.
The Czech international poked the ball into the back of the net after Martin Dubravka fluffed a Lucas Paqueta shot and then went on to see a later attempt at goal fall to Kyle Walker-Peters for the third.
Nuno Espirito Santo praises ‘nightmare’ Tomas Soucek
Speaking after the match, Nuno said: “I’ve played Thomas, I’ve played West Ham, many times and every time I was analysing it, it was a nightmare. How do you control Thomas getting in the box? He recognises the space and he has belief that not many players have. So good. He’s just made 250 appearances for the club, it’s huge. You cannot have anything else but respect and love for Tomas.”
Soucek was rated an 8/10 for his performance against Burnley by Hammers News. The outlet wrote: “Fans will have been delighted to see Tomas Soucek dust off his spinning, dizzying celebration for a second game in a row. Real poacher’s instinct when he tapped in at the back post after Dubravka spilled Paqueta’s curling attempt. Two in two for the Czech.
“Speculative drive forced Dubravka into another spill as Walker-Peters opened his account and sealed the win. West Ham’s supersub.”
West Ham midfielder suspended for AFC Bournemouth
There was some bad news to come from the win over Burnley with Lucas Paqueta picking up a fifth booking of the season. The Brazilian will now be suspended for the next Premier League fixture against AFC Bournemouth.
Paqueta had also been shown a yellow card against Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Brentford. The Hammers travel to AFC Bournemouth after the international break on November 22 and will be without the star, who has started every game of the campaign so far.
Nuno will have the playmaker available for the visit of Liverpool on November 30. The next players walking the suspension tightrope are Max Kilman and Crysencio Summerville, both on three bookings so far this term.
