Donald Trump is at it again with the NFL. This time, he’s calling for a stadium to be named after him. The news comes just one day before week 10 kicks off.
The Washington Commanders are reportedly under informal pressure from President Donald Trump to name their forthcoming $3.7 billion stadium in Washington, D.C., after him — a move that could reshape how stadium naming rights are handled in the NFL.

According to multiple sources, Trump has expressed his desire to the Commanders’ ownership group, led by Josh Harris, that their new stadium at the former RFK Stadium site bear his name.
The stadium, which will seat approximately 65,000 and is slated to open by 2030, is projected to be the home of the Commanders following redevelopment of the RFK site.
The White House has weighed in — press secretary Karoline Leavitt called the stadium-naming idea “a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible.”
Why This Matters
Brand and legacy: Naming a major NFL stadium after a sitting (or former) president would be unprecedented and elevates the question of legacy branding in sports architecture.
Corporate sponsorship conflict: NFL teams typically sell naming rights to corporate sponsors worth hundreds of millions; a name tied to a person could complicate that model and raise questions about sponsorship value. CBS Sports
Approval hurdles: The Commanders do not control all naming decisions unilaterally — the land is leased from the federal government and the stadium will require sign-off from the D.C. Council and the National Park Service. The Guardian
What’s Next
Informal talks are expected during Trump’s attendance at an upcoming Commanders home game, as familiarity builds between team ownership and the White House.
Formal naming deliberations, including contracts and stakeholder approval (city, federal, corporate), remain pending.
The reaction from fans, corporate sponsors, and city officials could influence whether the name ends up being “Trump Stadium,” a hybrid like “Northwest Field at Trump Stadium,” or a more conventional corporate naming deal.
