According to a league memo distributed Friday, the tribute will take place during pregame ceremonies across every NFL stadium. Following the moment of silence, teams will share a unified message promoting mental health awareness:

The NFL sent a memo to all teams Friday, asking them to hold a moment of silence Sunday as part of the pre-game ceremonies in memory of the late Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland.

The moment of silence will be followed by a message read in all of the stadiums that says, If you or someone you know is struggling or needs emotional support, please call or text 988. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24-7 to help.

The league’s decision underscores its commitment to supporting players, staff, and fans who may be struggling, while also honoring the life and career of Kneeland. The young defensive end, who was in his first season with Dallas, had already earned respect around the league for his talent and work ethic.

League officials emphasized that this Sunday’s pregame ceremonies are meant not only as a remembrance but also as an opportunity to highlight the importance of mental health resources throughout the sports community.

The Cowboys and several other organizations are expected to share additional tributes in the days ahead.
