Chiefs Starter Avoids NFL Punishment Despite James Cook Injury

Buffalo Bills star running back James Cook helped the team to a 28-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in a Week 10 showdown between Super Bowl contenders.

Cook racked up 114 rushing yards in the contest, adding to his league-leading 108 yards per game on the ground, while catching one pass for another 11 yards in the win. While he dominated once again, the talented running back picked up an injury that forced him to miss practice on Wednesday before being limited on Thursday.

As his status remained up in the air, star quarterback Josh Allen made it clear there’s no replacing a player like Cook.

“Obviously I said this in training camp, there’s no replacing James Cook. Hopefully, he’s doing everything that he needs to be doing, which, again, he’s a true pros He’s gonna be doing that. Hopefully, we can have him back by the time game time rolls around,” Allen said.

Cook’s injury stemmed from the team’s victory over the Chiefs where the star running back appeared to be injured on a hip drop tackle from Chiefs defensive back Nohl Williams. He left the game and spoke with the training staff before eventually getting his ankle taped up.

The NFL has placed an emphasis on hip drop tackles so far this season, most recently suspending Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu for a hip drop tackle before eventually rescinding the suspension in lieu of a $100,000 fine. Williams was not fined for the questionable tackle.

Despite missing practice earlier in the week and being limited on Thursday, Cook returned to a full practice on Friday and is good to go for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
