Chelsea beat Wolves 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, scoring all three goals after the break. The result means that Wolves haven’t won a league game yet this season, and the Blues stay in the running for a top-four spot.
After halftime, Chelsea did a good job of managing the game state, turning their dominance into goals after the first half ended in a tie.
Malo Gusto scored the first goal in the 51st minute, heading in a cross from Alejandro Garnacho. Joao Pedro made it 2-0 in the 65th minute by scoring after Estevao sent a deflected ball across the box. In the 73rd minute, Pedro Neto scored the third goal for his team, converting a counterattack led by Garnacho.
Wolves, who are under an interim coach after Vitor Pereira was sacked, didn’t pose much of a threat and are still at the bottom of the table.
Malo Gusto Reacts After Helping Chelsea Beat Wolves
Malo Gusto talked about Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League, focusing on the change in tactics after halftime. Gusto’s header in the 51st minute notably broke the deadlock for the Blues. Pedro scored in the 65th minute, and Neto scored in the 73rd.
Chelsea took 20 shots, eight of which were on target, had 64.5% of the ball, and won 10 corners. Wolves didn’t get any shots on target. Speaking after the game, Gusto said:
“[Wolves] were compact in the first half; we struggled to find space between the lines. The second half was better, we found each other more easily, and that’s why we scored the first goal. After that, it was easier for the team.”
He added:
“A long time since I came here, but it’s just the beginning. Three points are important before the international break. We are here for the top four, that’s our aim… It was our plan to put players in the box. Very happy for the team.”
Chelsea have scored in 10 of the 11 league games they have played this season. According to the most recent match data, the 20 shots against Wolves are their highest league total of the season.
