Josh Hokit burst on to the UFC heavyweight scene on Saturday night with a massive first minute knockout.
If there’s one division not just in the UFC but the sport in general that needs sprucing up, it’s the heavyweights. And a green octagon newcomer made his debut at UFC Vegas 111 tonight as Hokit blasted Max Gimenis, immediately promising that excitement.
Hokit, who failed to make a full NFL squad after 2020 and 2022 efforts, made the switch to MMA after football didn’t work out – branding himself the ‘Incredible Hulk’. And he is now in the big leagues and potentially heading towards a bonus on fight night.
Josh Hokit lands vicious KO to win UFC Vegas 111 debut
Since transitioning to MMA, Josh Hokit has been on a tear with all stoppage wins, and only going past round one on two occasions. However, he knew this time around was the big leagues, and as such left no stone unturned from promoting the UFC Apex prelim and delivering in the cage.
He barrelled across the cage and had his Brazilian rival on the canvas within seconds. He let his opponent seemingly off the hook, only to place a picture perfect right hand and have the fight waved off by referee Mark Smith.
The victory marked his seventh as a professional and his fourth knockout, after three submissions in his early run. Hokit even called out Valter Walker in a clear effort to land himself within the top 15 with just two octagon victories.
