Seahawks place former Alabama defensive lineman on injured reserve

The Seattle Seahawks will be without defensive lineman Jarran Reed for at least the next four games after placing the former Alabama standout on injured reserve on Saturday.

The loss of Reed was a surprise, at least publicly. Although listed on the Seahawks’ injury report with a wrist injury for the second week in a row, Reed was shown as a full practice participant every day.

But on Saturday, Seattle declared Reed out for Sunday’s game before placing him on injured reserve.

The Seahawks play the Arizona Cardinals at 3:05 p.m. CST Sunday at Lumen Field in Seattle. Because NFL rules require players placed on injured reserve to remain sidelined for at least four games, Reed also will miss the Seahawks’ meetings with the Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings, at the least. He will be eligible to return to practice on Dec. 1.

With 147 NFL regular-season games, Reed ranks second among defensive-interior players from Alabama. Mike Pitts played in 169 games from the 1983 through 1994 seasons to top the list.

In eight games, with two starts, this season, Reed has played 47 percent of the Seahawks’ defensive snaps. He has 17 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one tackle for loss and six quarterback hits.

Reed joined Seattle from Alabama’s 2015 CFP national-championship team as a second-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. After playing for the Seahawks in his first five NFL seasons, Reed spent one season with the Kansas City Chiefs and one season with the Green Bay Packers before returning to Seattle in 2023.
