WASHINGTON -- Quandre Diggs is back on the open market after asking for and receiving his release from the Tennessee Titans.
Diggs was waived by the Titans on Friday after making the request. The 32-year-old has been with the Titans after spending five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Diggs, a former sixth-round pick by the Lions back in 2015, made all three of his career Pro Bowl nods while playing in Seattle.
Diggs played the first five seasons of his career with the Lions. But he was traded five games into the 2019 campaign with former Lions coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn were running the show in Detroit.
The veteran safety started four of nine games for the struggling Titans this season. Diggs has 24 career interceptions to go with 652 tackles and 15 tackles for loss across his 11 seasons in the NFL.
“Man, it’s dope, bro,” Diggs told MLive after the Titans played the Lions last year. “It’s a blessing to come back. I mean, to be here and just enjoy the moment, to see the change in everything that’s going on. I’m forever grateful for my time here ... ”
Back here in Detroit, the Lions made a swap of safeties heading into their Week 10 game against the Washington Commanders. They released Jammie Robinson and activated veteran Daniel Thomas from injured reserve. And with Avonte Maddox back in action, too, the Lions all of a sudden have some veteran depth ready and waiting in the secondary.
Thomas Harper is expected to earn another start with All-Pro Lions safety Kerby Joseph set to miss his third straight game. Look for Harper and Brian Branch to hold things down at safety against the Commanders.
