The latest transfer talking points, including updates from Newcastle United and Man Utd

For most of us the clock’s going back signals the start of the Christmas preparations, but football managers in the Premier League are instead looking ahead to the January sales.

The winter window it’s often said is one that can make or break a season. And for any side not quite meeting expectations it’s a wonderful opportunity to rejuvenate the squad and give the fans a vital life as they look to achieve their goals.

One example of this is Newcastle United. They, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, have expressed an interest in out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

The 28-time France international, who appeared as a substitute in the 2022 World Cup final, has spent four years in the Spanish capital following his move from Stade Rennais in August 2021, but currently faces an uncertain future after slipping down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Overall, he’s played 10 matches this season, but has only been included in the starting lineup on three of those occasions. The outlet reports the Magpies are preparing a bid of around €70m, which equates to around £61m for the player in January.

Could Eduardo Camavinga make the move to St James’ Park?

Eduardo Camavinga, if made available, would rapidly become one of the most sought after young footballers in the world. Aged 22, he’s already won two Champions Leagues, racked up nearly 200 appearances for Real Madrid and proved himself as a key player in a number of midfield roles.

In addition to this, he can also play left-back, which Newcastle have a shortage of at present, and he’d be able to rapidly improve the standard of a midfield that has not yet hit the same heights as last season.

He’d fit in nicely as a potential long-term successor to fan favourite Joelinton as well. However, it appears a bit of a far-fetched report at this stage. Even Fichajes notes that Real Madrid want to keep Camavinga as the club considers him an asset for the future and believes his role extends beyond the current season.

Man Utd and Arsenal hope to sign ‘next Toni Kroos’

According to Sun Sport, Manchester United and Arsenal are battling to sign rising Hertha Berlin prospect Kennet Eichhorn in January.

The 16-year-old has played nine matches in the second-tier of Germany football and has started six of those in the central defensive midfield position.

He’s been compared to Toni Kroos for his ability to dictate the game in the central area, and has established himself as a real key player for Germany at Under-17 level.

The 3AM verdict: Man Utd co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has made it clear that his vision for the club is to sign the best young talents before they get a big reputation. This is a great opportunity for them to do so particularly if Kobbie Mainoo is to depart.
