Rutter is ready for Selhurst Park - and can see a bit of himself in Mateta

And he has spoken of his respect for the compatriot who could pose the biggest threat to Albion against Crystal Palace.

Rutter is likely to start for the Seagulls in support of Danny Welbeck in today’s Premier League clash (2pm).

The fixture last season came a week after he had suffered a season-ending injury.

Matt O’Riley was handed the No.10 berth that day but Rutter is likely to take the role this time.

The France under-21 international said: “When I was at Leeds, we played Manchester United.

“When I was at Hoffenheim, we played Frankfurt.

“I know this type of game is important and I know, when I go on to the pitch, I’m going to say, ‘We have to play today, we have to win’.

“It’s not about how good you play or if you play dirty, you have to win.”

France international Jean-Philippe Mateta, formerly of Lyon and Mainz, will lead the home attack.

Rutter said: “Mateta is a very good striker.

“I know him not personally but I know him since I was young because he is that type of player who is a bit the same as me.

“He was in France, then Germany, then the Premier League.

“I like a player like him, a very good striker.

“I think it was not easy for him in his career either.

“I saw sometimes it was up and down but what he did is great.”
