United grab last minute draw after Spurs late flourish.

Spurs v Manchester United, 08.11.25

Our home form in the Premier League remains dismal. We haven't won since the opening day of the season against Burnley, and we've lost three of our six home matches. That figure looked like becoming four defeats today until two very late goals gave us hope of an unlikely victory and what would have been a fifth consecutive win over United. However, in a final twist in the tale the visitors grabbed an equaliser in the dying seconds of the six minutes of added time.

To be honest, the draw was not undeserved for United, who scored in the first half with the solitary shot on target by either team. Neither goalkeeper had been tested and Spurs' XG was a miserable 0.07!

The game was preceded by a Remembrance ceremony which included an immaculately observed silence.

United must have won the toss and turned us round because we kicked off and played towards the south stand.

I don't think I was the only one disappointed by Thomas Frank's team selection. We all hoped for the return of Mohammed Kudus, but he was still injured. Johnson held the right wing slot. If he were an Amazon delivery driver, Brennan would have been sacked ages ago, such was the dire quality of his attempts to deliver a cross.

After Micky van de Ven and Xavi, Udogie and Odobert had been two of our best players against Copenhagen, responsible for a lot of the expressive football we saw. Even with his limited resources (two untested youngsters were again on the bench), Frank seems to be obsessed with rotation and both Udogie and Odobert plus Bentancur were switched today.

Spurs won an early corner after goalkeeper Lammens' error, but Pedro Porro over-hit the ball. That wasn't Pedro's last mistake in both attack and defence. He made too many erroneous attempted passes out of defence, but he wasn't alone in this regard. Even the heroic Micky van de Ven was not immune, but he rescued his one error.

Xavi led us out with a good run but slipped at the crucial (passing) moment. Again, this was not Xavi's only slip, but he has definitely won the home crowd's favour. United tried to take advantage and Mbeumo crossed, but there was an offside in any case.

Amorim was packing his midfield. Mbeumo was generally on the left with Matheus Cunha more central. After they scored, United resembled a 4-5-1 more often than not.

Muani and Johnson attacked down the right channel, but Johnson overran the ball. Johnson did manage a decent cross after 15 minutes, but Richarlison was not quite able to make contact. Muani led another attack and Sarr hit a snatched shot far too high.

Pedro Porro made a vital interception after Cunha had got the better of Romero. There were two handball shouts from the United fans, but referee Sam Barrott was not interested.

At one United corner, Johnson was booked for shenanigans before the kick was taken. United's goal followed a corner on the right. After we failed to clear, Diallo crossed from the right and Mbeumo met the ball at the back post to head home all too easily. I thought there might have been a United handball in the build-up in our area, but nothing was given.

The game had not been the humdinger I hoped for. Glenn Hoddle was Paul Coyte's half-time guest and Odobert replaced Muani.

Pedro Porro hit an early cross which was deflected by Maguire and was otherwise heading for Richarlison, but he had been offside in any case. Odobert delivered a dangerous cross from the left, and it was Romero who cleverly flicked towards goal with Lammens making a good save. He had to save sharply again after the ball was crossed from the right and Palhinha's acrobatic effort was stopped. Spurs had shots on target and our XG was on the up and up!

United made a break down the left flank and Mbeumo had a runner going ahead of him, but Spurs managed to defend that situation. Johnson had the ball in the net after 61 minutes but had clearly been offside when taking Richarlison's pass.

Udogie replaced Pedro Porro (who had required some treatment) and Djed Spence moved to right back. Both Udogie and Sarr threatened when working together inside the United area on the left but could not get a shot on goal. Fernandes hit a shot off target at the other end.

Now Maguire needed treatment and United made three substitutions after which they seemed to lose momentum and initiative. Time was running out for Spurs though, and another defeat looked on the cards.

There were boos when Frank chose to withdraw Xavi for Tel, but the coach soon had the last laugh as Tel scored an 84th minute equaliser. Odobert and Udogie combined on the left and Udogie's cut-back cross was controlled by Tel, who turned and fired home with his right foot. Tel immediately waved his team-mates back to restart the game and to seek a winner.

Sesko (who has been something of a misfit signing for United) had replaced Mazraoui and he was advancing onto a long ball but was prevented from scoring by Van de Veen's brilliant tackle and a pick-up of the free ball by Vicario.

Romero had to be replaced by Danso and Sesko went off injured. United had used all their subs, so had to see the game out with ten men.

An Odobert cross was just a little behind Tel, who could not get the necessary strength on his shot. I thought Odobert had scored a winner in the first of six minutes of added time, but Richarlison had claimed a headed touch and whipped off his shirt in celebration.

It looked as if Spurs had snatched a dramatic victory from the jaws of defeat, but in the very last seconds, Fernandes swung in a corner from the left and De Ligt rose to score at the back post. Vicario tried to grab the ball, but it was over the line.

My potential headline was Spurs/United snatch victory/draw from the jaws of defeat. At least we didn't lose.

We face two very difficult away games after the international break. Firstly, we visit top of the table Arsenal, before visiting Paris to face PSG. Anything out of those two games would be a miracle.
