Max Wober Leeds United
Max Wober was part of a group of Leeds United players who left Elland Road in the summer transfer window. With the team preparing for the Premier League, they needed to recruit quality options.
So the club decided to make decisions on the current players in the team. They also had to clear wages and make space when it comes to the squad number. Pre-season was the key point for Daniel Farke. His list of players for the training camp in Germany gave a fair idea of who was in the club’s plans for the campaign.

Max Wober was not included, as he was sealing a move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen. The defender reportedly had a falling out with Farke when the coach arrived in his first year. Wober decided against playing that season, and went out on loan.
He returned to Elland Road last season, but due to injuries and Daniel Farke’s decision, he only played nine games the whole campaign. Wober played a total of 412 minutes that season. So it was a no brainer for him to seek a move away this summer, especially after he told Austrian media that Leeds had told him to find a new club in the summer.
Max Wober at Werder Bremen
The Leeds United loanee made some comments in his first interview when he signed for Bremen. Wober said that he was ‘excited’ to forget about his time at Elland Road last season: ”I’m excited to leave that period behind me and now get back to my best. I will give my all to stay fit for the entire season.”
He could have not gotten off to a worse start this campaign. In his first and only appearance this season, he only lasted 79 minutes in a DFB Pokal game. Bremen revealed that the defender had aggravated a hamstring injury and his timeline for recovery was six to eight weeks.
It is now November, and there has been no sighting of Max Wober in training.
Leeds United star must be regretting his choice of words
Trashing your parent club, vowing to stay fit and then getting injured in your first game is not what Max Wober hoped for after leaving Leeds United. No one really knows when he will return, but almost a third of the season is already gone.
In hindsight, staying at Elland Road could have been the better choice for the 27-year old. With the World Cup around the corner, the defender is in a race against time to get fit and actually start playing games to stay in contention for selection.
One would also wonder how this injury affects his chances of being sold next year. Wober’s contract expires in 2027, but with what happened this year, it is likely the club decides to offload him soon. But with another season of almost no football, his value will fall and clubs will try to get him on a cut-price deal due to his injury proneness.
