Oli McBurnie fires cheeky dig at Leeds United’s Joe Gelhardt, with Adam Forshaw impressed

Oli McBurnie aimed a hilarious dig at Leeds United loanee Joe Gelhardt after he continued his strong run of recent form with another goal.

Joe Gelhardt produced a sublime finish to secure a dramatic victory for Hull City, latching onto a through ball before dinking over the Portsmouth keeper.

The Leeds loanee is in the midst of a career-best run of form, after scoring his seventh goal of the season, including a run of five goals in six games.

With doubts over the fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Leeds prepare to take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, Daniel Farke may wish he had Gelhardt in his squad for the crucial game.

Now, Adam Forshaw and several of Gelhardt’s former Leeds teammates have congratulated the forward, as he continued his fine form in the Championship.

Hull City manager praises ‘special’ Joe Gelhardt

Speaking via the Yorkshire Post following Hull’s 3-2 victory, manager Sergej Jakirovic praised Gelhardt for his “special” ability.

The Leeds United loanee also provided an assist for Hull’s second goal, and the Hull boss said he had “begged” the club’s hierarchy to bring him back to the club this season after also spending time on loan with Hull in the 2024/25 Championship season.

Jakirovic said: “When I watched him in last season’s games, I begged Mr Chairman (Acun Ilicali) to bring him back here.

“He likes playing here, and he wanted to come back here. He has a completely different profile to the players we have.

“He has the quality to play in a number of positions and is able to pass, shoot and has speed, which is special. He’s 23 years old, and maybe he can reach the Premier League. But, right now, he’s made the difference.”
