Manchester United may be forced to enter the transfer market in January to sign a new forward after Benjamin Sesko's worrying injury picked up in the 2-2 draw with Saturday – but can they bring back Rasmus Hojlund from his Napoli loan?
Striker Sesko came off the bench in the 58th minute against Tottenham, but lasted just half an hour. He was forced off following a challenge from Micky van de Ven when he was through on goal.
After receiving treatment for a knee injury, Sesko headed straight down the tunnel.
Fortunately, Ruben Amorim's men rescued a point through Matthijs de Ligt's late equaliser.
"We have to check," Amorim said when asked about the injury. "He had something in his knee, let's see."
Asked if it was a serious one, the Portuguese added: "I have no idea. Because it's the knee, we never know."
Hojlund is still on United's books, with the Denmark international on loan at Napoli in Italy. The 22-year-old has scored four goals in nine appearances for the Serie A champions.
It's understood that Napoli have an option to purchase Hojlund for £38million at the end of the season.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the loan includes an option that could become an obligation, although the parties involved in the deal view it as 'guaranteed' if they qualify for the Champions League.
It means there is no recall option for United to turn to if they decide to look to bring him back to Old Trafford in January.
Before the Spirs game, speculation had linked United with a new centre-forward to compete with Sesko for the second half of the season. Joshua Zirkzee was again left on the bench, and a return to Italy has been reported in the last month.
"We have to check everything, we have to check what has happened with Ben," Amorim said when questioned about United's transfer plans. "Of course, we are going to have a problem there [with AFCON], but we already knew.
"Then you can prepare that in the summer, but then you have a lot of players in the summer who are not going to play because it's one game per week. So the management of that situation is going to be hard.
"But let's see when the window is open, if we can improve the team and try to prepare something that happened. Until then, we have to take the chance."
