Wolves Lessons Learned: Larsen vs Tolu, João Gomes’ Class, Confidence Crisis
Tyler price sums up his key takeaways from wolves performance against chelsea
1. Striker Contention
From the first half, Larsen offered little to nothing upfront and struggled to take the ball in his stride on multiple occasions when he could’ve potentially got a shot away and it’s very concerning considering it’s not only this game we’ve seen Larsen perform like that. From the cameos we have seen from Tolu like the cup fixture against Chelsea, he managed to bag himself a goal and played very well. Even coming on against Fulham and holding up the ball a lot better than JSL trying to actually beat his man in possession.. that is what’s refreshing to see in a striker. Personally would like to see Tolu get a lot more minutes than he’s getting at the moment.
2. Joao Gomes impact
Was absolutely class today in the midfield, very questionable why he was dropped nearing the end of Vitor’s tenure in charge. Seems as though he’s one of the very few players who are playing with everything they physically have. Does not deserve to be in the losing side weekly, only a matter of time until we lose him.
3. Definite confidence of our relegation
On a personal note, I thought today would’ve been the day where players would play with as much confidence as possible after the sacking of Vitor Pereira. They seemed lost and after the second goal heads completely dropped and we crumbled. The players on paper are deemed as good enough for safety but on that football pitch I see absolutely no sparks.
4. Mane impact
Mateus Mane came on and had some very positive runs, all we ask as fans is more of that under Edward’s. Hopefully gets some minutes as it’s refreshing to see a player actually try attack their man and give the fans something to get behind.
5. Squad on paper
In my opinion again, I think it’s up there with the worst squads in history to compete in this division. It’s just completely baffling we’ve come into this seasons thinking it’s sufficient to replace the likes of Semedo with Tchatchoua, Ait Nouri with Wolfe, Cunha with a benched Arias. Just absolute horror behind the scenes, we cannot compete in this league any longer.
Poor Edward’s man!
