Maresca: Chelsea going in the right direction

**Enzo Maresca hailed his side’s mental strength and attacking talent after Chelsea eventually dismantled a stubborn Wolves outfit 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.**

The Blues boss, who has faced recent scrutiny over his rotation policy, saw his team deliver a powerful second-half display, netting three times after a frustrating, goalless first 45 minutes saw some disquiet among the home support.

Maresca admitted that this type of match, against a team struggling at the foot of the table, carries its own unique pressure.

“The clean sheet, the amount of chances we created—these games can be worrying because they are games you have to win and they can be tricky, complicated games,” Maresca said.

“The difference between the first and second half was simple: we scored the goals we missed earlier.”

The breakthrough came early in the second period from an unlikely source, with Malo Gusto heading home his first senior goal for the club. Maresca was visibly delighted for his young full-back.

“Finally! Malo was close many times but finally he gave us the goal that we needed for 1-0,” he joked, before praising the wider contribution of his attacking players, particularly Alejandro Garnacho, who was instrumental, assisting two of the three goals.

Maresca said: “Alejandro Garnacho was very good. Not only on the ball but also off the ball, especially when he was pressing, and this is what we need from our wingers. Garnacho is doing well, Joao Pedro is doing well, Estevao is doing well. We need them all to be doing well.”

Despite the strong result, the Italian was quick to dismiss external criticism, insisting the club is on the right trajectory.

“It’s more noise from outside. Inside, we are convinced that as a club, as a team, we are going in the right direction,” he stated.

“It’s part of my job, it’s part of the game. When you do the right things against Liverpool, when you do the right things against Tottenham, then you have to confirm that. You have to continue to do that.”
