Arne Slot must not start Milos Kerkez vs Man City for one obvious reason

Milos Kerkez has had a tough start to life at Liverpool so far.

The Reds are preparing to face Manchester City in the final game before the international break, with the outcome of this match having a big impact on the title race.

With Arsenal dropping points against Sunderland, both will have smelt blood, with the Gunners showing a vulnerability that they had not shown so far this season.

Arne Slot will have to get his team selection right, though, with the defence one of the biggest areas that needs to be perfect to deal with the likes of Erling Haaland.

However, it is at left-back where the biggest issues may arise, and despite not starting the last two games, Kerkez must be left on the bench for this one.

Rayan Cherki would destroy Milos Kerkez

Since arriving, the Hungarian has been a little rash and over-eager to impress, which has meant he has looked nothing like the player everyone saw at Bournemouth last season.

As well as this, Andy Robertson has shown him how it is done since coming into the team, making it clear that he is the better option at this moment in time.

Rayan Cherki’s form for Man City only adds to the fact that Robertson has to be the one to start, with the Frenchman causing his opponents problems game after game.

His trickery has been a real issue and he glides past players like they are not there, with this being something that Kerkez would not be able to deal with based on his current form.

If Cherki dictates the game, then Liverpool will be in trouble, especially as he has the quality to pick Erling Haaland out and, well, everyone knows what happens next.

With that said, Robertson is the obvious choice at left-back due to his experience, with the Scotsman hopefully being more able to stop the threat of Cherki down the right.

Rayan Cherki has been what Liverpool fans want Florian Wirtz to be

At one point, both Man City and Liverpool were looking at Cherki and Florian Wirtz, showing how they have a fairly similar profile.

However, it has been the Frenchman who has had a better start to life in England, scoring three and assisting as many in eight games.

As for Wirtz, he has just two assists in 15 games, although his performances would suggest he should have more.

If they both start, it will certainly be very interesting to see how they get on, with these both being players who can change a game in the blink of an eye.
