The Celts have been without a permanent manager since the end of October.
On 27th October, Brendan Rodgers resigned following a 3-1 loss to Heart of Midlothian, with Martin O’Neill appointed as his temporary replacement.
It all got a bit sour at Celtic before Rodgers decided to resign, as the former Liverpool manager was accused of misleading fans over his contract talks.
Celtic major stakeholder Dermot Desmond even claimed that the manager’s “divisive” actions “fuelled hostility” towards the board and executive team.
Celtic were second in the Scottish Premiership when Rodgers resigned, but they had lost two league matches in a row and were eight points behind league leading Hearts.
O’Neill remains in charge for the time being, but a shortlist has been drawn to find a permanent successor.
One name on that list is former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane.
He is currently in charge of Hungarian side Ferencvaros and he guided them to the title last season and he has also helped them to third place in the Europa league table after three wins and a draw so far.
Keane has now directly addressed the rumours linking him with becoming Celtic’s new manager.
“I can’t do anything about the speculation, but maybe it means I’m doing my job well here and that’s the most important thing.”
“I’m happy here. I don’t really want to react to every rumour, but I played football for many years and whatever club I played for, everyone would always talk about where I would go next.”
“So, I don’t worry about it. I focus on one thing and that’s Ferencvaros.”
“Look at the unity of the team and the relationship with the supporters here.”
“After the full-time whistle, the fans kept calling me over. It was impressive, it felt good and meant a lot. Their encouragement and support throughout the match was fantastic.”
