Anthony Gordon absent from Newcastle United squad as Magpies take on Brentford

**Newcastle United are back in action in the Premier League this afternoon at the G-Tech Community Stadium as they take on Brentford, live on Sky Sports, with a kick-off time of 2pm.**

Eddie Howe will be hoping his side can pick up their first away win of the season in the Premier League but will be very aware that it won't be easy.

After stating on Friday that he'd give Anthony Gordon every chance to feature today despite being hooked in the past two games through a flare up of a hip injury, the England winger has been left out of the squad. Common sense prevails.

That means Harvey Barnes starts on the left as we predicted.

Nailed it

Dan Burn keeps Lewis Hall out of the side

-----------------------------------------

Unsurprisingly, Nick Pope starts in goal fresh from his return to the England set-up.

Kieran Trippier continues at right-back with Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman in the middle of the defence.

After his stunning Champions League goal in midweek, Big Dan Burn continues to keep Lewis Hall out of the lineup for now.

No big surprises at the top end of the pitch

--------------------------------------------

Joelinton keeps Jacob Ramsey at bay, no doubt thanks to his goal against Athletic Bilbao, while Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali keep their place in the side.

With Gordon missing out, there's no surprise up front either, with Nick Woltemade the only fit striker leading the line, flanked by Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy.

It's a strong bench given the injuries Howe is having to work with, but this is a team that SHOULD be able to win today, if they can finally put in a performance away from home.

HOWAY EDDIE HOWE'S WE'VE GOT TO START WINNING AWAY AT SOME POINT MAGS!
