Leeds United are keen on signing Celtic attacking sensation Sebastian Tounekti, but the Scottish club have no intention of letting him leave.
Leeds United are keen on reinforcing their attack in the upcoming winter transfer window. The Whites want to add more goals and creativity to the mix, as they look to increase their chances of staying up. Having scored just nine goals in their first ten league outings, they do lack firepower.
Daniel Farke is pushing hard to bring in a new winger, and according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Leeds United have their eyes set on Sebastian Tounekti. They could knock on Celtic’s door in January to sign him. However, the Scottish giants are unlikely to sanction his departure, having signed him on the deadline day of the summer window.
Sebastian Tounekti’s Celtic move
Celtic forked out around £5.2 million to add him to their squad from Hammarby IF in the summer. He has had an instant impact at his new club. While there is a lot going on at Parkhead with regard to the managerial position, it has not affected the 23-year-old winger.
The Tunisia international has been involved in a total of 12 games for Celtic and has already found the back of the net twice. The youngster has been one of their most exciting players going forward, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
Leeds United are one of the clubs are interested in his services. Farke’s team are keeping tabs on his situation ahead of a potential move in the winter. However, O’Rourke believes a transfer in January is very unlikely.
O’Rourke on Leeds United’s interest in Tounekti
While speaking on the Inside Track podcast, the transfer expert said, “It’s a strange link, I think, he only arrived at Celtic on deadline day when he joined from Hammarby. He has made an immediate impact, he’s an exciting winger who can score and create goals, he’s got two goals in 11 appearances for Celtic so far.
“It would be a massive surprise if Celtic were even considering letting him go so early into his Celtic career as well. I don’t think Celtic will be open to letting the Tunisia international leave.
“We know Leeds are in the market for attacking reinforcements in January if they can find them. I just don’t see Celtic being open to selling to Tounekti in January and as I said, the player has only arrived at the club, I’m sure he’s happy to stay and continue playing for Celtic as well.”
Leeds United are struggling in the final third, and signing a new winger is one of their priorities. While they do admire Sebastian Tounekti and would love to sign him in January, that is unlikely to happen.
Having signed the Tunisian winger in the summer, Celtic won’t be open to a potential departure this early. More importantly, the player also won’t push for a move just months after joining the Scottish club.
