Kaoru Mitoma absence explained for Brighton at Crystal Palace as two-goal hero keeps his spot

Crystal Palace vs Brighton confirmed team news: 5 ruled out and star man is '50-50'

Crystal Palace vs Brighton in the Premier League at Selhurst Park - Sunday, 2pm

Kaoru Mitoma continues to be sidelined for Brighton and Hove Albion

The Japan international has missed the last five matches for Brighton and the Premier League clash at old rivals Crystal Palace also arrives too soon.

Mitoma, 28, has been struggling with an ankle injury sustained in Albion's 3-1 win at Chelsea last month.

Mitoma has also decided not to travel with Japan for the upcoming international break and Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler will hope to have his star winger available for the clash against Brentford on November 22.

Paraguay international Diego Gomez keeps his spot on the left flank - Mitoma’s position - after his impressive two goal display in the 3-0 win against Leeds United last time out.

Gomez would likely have started even if Mitoma had been fit enough to play.

Striker Danny Welbeck leads the line for the Seagulls as he looks to prove a point after he was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad. The former Manchester United and Arsenal man has been in decent form this term with six Premier League goals to his name.

Welbeck weill be partnered up to by £40m record signing Georginio, who is still searching for his first goal of the season.

Fkying winger Yankuba Minteh keeps his place on the right wing.

Elsewhere Mats Wieffer resumes at right back despite the return to fitness of Joel Veltman after a calf injury. Veltman is on the bench.

Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke are the centre back pairing with Ferdi Kadioglu once again ahead of Maxim De Cuyper in the left back slot.

Brighton XI: Verbruggen, Wieffer, Van Hecke, Dunk, Kadioglu, Baleba, Ayari, Minteh, Rutter, Gomez, Welbeck. Subs: Steele, Tzimas, Kostoulas, Boscagli, De Cuyper, Veltman, Coppola, Knight, Oriola

Marc Guehi ruled out for Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace, who beat AZ Alkmaar 3-1 in the European Conference League on Thursday, are without captain Marc Guehi but midfielder Adam Wharton returns to the XI.

Crystal Palace XI: Henderson, Richards, Lacroix, Canvot, Munoz, Wharton, Lerma, Kamada, Mitchell, Sarr, Mateta. Subs: Matthews, Benitez, Pino, Uche, Clyne, Hughes, Esse, Sosa, Devenny.
