The Dutchman is one of the Reds’ most important players and earns plenty of praise for his midfield qualities.
Since his move to Anfield, the 23-year-old has transitioned into a defensive midfielder. His quick thinking and body feints to escape pressure are reminiscent of a young Sergio Busquets, and he continues to be one of the first names on Arne Slot’s team sheet.
Barcelona have two excellent pivot players in Frenkie de Jong and Pedri, but both are deep-lying playmakers. Signing someone like Gravenberch could add defensive solidity, and it helps that the 23-year-old is no mug with the ball at his feet either.
That said, it would be no surprise if Liverpool put a hefty price tag on Gravenberch, one likely to be out of Barcelona’s reach. The Dutchman is not a straightforward signing for the Catalan club, nor a necessity if Marc Bernal and Marc Casado reach their potential. For now, it is best not to read too much into this interest.
