Nuno’s subs make the difference for West Ham vs Burnley

By Louis Nixon

**Nuno Espirito Santo’s timely substitutions of Walker-Peters and Soucek proved to be the difference as West Ham defeat Burnley 3-2.**

Before the past two matchweeks, Nuno had been subjected to numerous comments about his team selection and many people were confused as to why he was selecting a certain number of players, but for the Newcastle & Burnley fixtures, he’s gotten it spot on with the starting squad, as well as his substitutions.

His timely substitutions against Newcastle, which saw Soucek put the game to bed in the 98th minute, was also replicated against Burnley seeing as Soucek came on in the 62nd minute and he scored in the 77th.

However, Walker-Peters decided to steal the spotlight by sealing the game in the 87th minute after being brought on in the 83rd. His tap-in goal saw him emphatically run to the crowd, and as the goal went in, you could see Nuno’s face beaming on the sideline.

Despite the players putting in the work on the pitch, a lot of the credit has to be placed towards Nuno for tactically bringing on the players when he did, as well as much-needed praise for him utilising what we have on the bench seeing as on paper, it isn’t very pretty.

Nuno has got the same squad as Graham Potter had, yet in these last few games, it’s started to feel like a completely different side and one that can gel together despite seeming so disconnected at the beginning of the season, which is an extremely positive sign, seeing as it reinstates belief within the fans that the squad can get results and push forward in the league.
