Pistons’ Marcus Sasser to remain out with hip injury, re-evaluated in four weeks

PHILADELPHIA — The Detroit Pistons announced on Saturday evening that third-year guard Marcus Sasser will remain out as he continues rehabilitation for a right hip impingement, the team stated in a press release. He will be evaluated in four weeks.

Sasser injured his hip during the preseason and has not played since the regular season began on Oct. 22. He is currently traveling with the team on its two-game road trip, which started against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.

Ahead of the Pistons’ 114-106 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, coach J.B. Bickerstaff said Sasser “has been able to do some things” on the court, but “the response hasn’t been where he is comfortable.”

“We will always be patient to make sure he is in a position to be successful before we throw him out there,” Bickerstaff said.

The hip injury has disrupted what should have been a promising season for Sasser. Last season, his playing time was inconsistent, resulting in Sasser appearing in 57 games and averaging 14.2 minutes. However, when called upon by Bickerstaff, Sasser produced.

In 14 games when he played 20 minutes or more, Sasser averaged 13.1 points on 50.1% shooting from the field, 45.2% 3-point shooting, and 3.5 assists.
